Always lived in rebel lines - none driven from the place 2 boys left in Apl and 2 about July inst. I hired 1 white man who worked 2 or 6 days and 1 white boy who worked from time crop was put in to time it was gathered. I treated the colored people as slaves up to time Taylor surrendered Since then treated them as free, their labor was not worth more than their food. They are working there now as they ever have been- they are worth their board. Mr Giers left Jany 1864 He has 420 acres including the Springs also 80 and 40 acres in Morgan Co. Hotel in place at Springs

A. T. Gooch Sr. - After death of my wife moved to Miss. part of my business back here is to take back with me the colored people who want to go - they having friends there. When I went on Giers place I was to have everything I could make for 2 years. I was not to support his Own family- no arrangement made to support them. He left every thing to me. and made no arrangement to have his family cared for. This power of attorney (No. 10 herewith enclosed) appointing me I did not receive I refused to take it - he said I was to have every thing free - his family were there
