Office Assistant Quartermaster
Columbus, Ohio, July 7th, 1865

Brig. Genl. Wager Swayne
Comr. Freedmen's Bureau
Mobile Ala.

Dear General

I would like very much to be put on duty connected with the Freedmen's Bureau. My long experience upon the estate of M.L. Sullivant where I had the oversight & charge of the cultivation of several thousand acres of land & farming in all its details, evenly enable me to take charge of some place, I think, to the advantage of the Freedmen & the Government. Your long personal acquaintance with me would enable you to judge of my fitness. As to my official career, my status can be obtained from the head of my Department.

If you are in a position to aid me in this matter, your efforts to that end would be duly appreciated.

I am General
Very Respectfully
