Dear Sir:
In compliance with the repeated solicitations of the Freedmen & women in my employ, I will make to you a statement of their cases, as I have learned it from them & from usual remarks of their last years employers. This farm was cultivated during the year 1864 by Benjamin Ward of Memphis and Silas Thurlow of Ohio. during the making of the crop the hands were to receive the following pay - grown men 10 dolls per month grown women 8. dolls per month & the younger ones in proportion for the four mos work done between Mar 15th & July 15th the hands have never received one cent of pay, and are now willing to swear that Ward & Thurlow are
