Office of Asst. Commissioner Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen and Abandoned Lands. Montgomery, Ala. August 19th 1865 Chas. A. Miller Maj & A.A.A.Gen. Major: In complyance with instructions from these [[?abbreviation]]. I have this day inspected the home colony at [[?plantation name Publius?] Plantation (7) Seven miles from the City. I found J. M. Skelton Capt 58th Ill. Vol. Inf'y in charge, assisted by (13) Thirteen noncommissioned officers and soldiers, all of whom were quartered at least one half mile from the main colony. I found in said colony (1800) eighteen hundred destitute colored persons. The colony is in a good location
