I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter dated Dec 23d 1865, and in reply beg leave to state, that there is no Treasury agent at this place.

On account of the scarcity and demand for leather here, I think it would be advisable to dispose of the stock on hand, where it is, saving expenses by Rail Road &c; With regard to other Government Property in the county, I have ascertained that it exists to a considerable amount, but in consequence of my having no means of Transportation, cannot positively determine the extent of it. I would respectfully suggest that I be furnished a horse, or, be allowed to deduct my expenses for travelling from contract money received.

Contracts are coming in
