Now I think Genl Swayne has misunderstood my propersition: which was simply to, repair the building without reference to Cost, on Condition that it should be leased by the Bureau for two years, or to give it up to the trustees.

Now I have to call attention particularly to the following statements - The State & the Trustees are at present without funds & we have nothing to expect from that source, still I can command $10,000 in 20 days for the purpose of repairs if Genl Swayne will give up possession.

The institution was in operation but 2 years. I had 140 students the 2d season at $100 - making $14,000. Now we certainly can for the winter 1866-7 command a class of 100 or say 75 which would give us sufficient fund - by pledging this we can command the money monthly, & Genl Swayne will see at once that by holding on as he does he cuts us off from all resource & dooming the establishment to destruction from rain &c.

The New Orleans Medical College - that of Augusts [[strikethrough]] & others [[/strikethrough]] Richmond & others are advertised to open this winter & why allow me to ask should the State of Alabama be made an exception.
