Montgomery ala. Sept. 3rd 1865

Capt. H. M. Stuart Sixth Illinois Cavalry, now under orders to proceed to Jory, Pike County, Alabama, with his command is hereby appointed a special commissioning to inquire into the working of the civil authority in Pike and adjoining Counties, and to aid in its complete restoration.

He will report to the Circuit Judge in that County,  will confer with him in regard to the matters above maintained and carry out his requests so far as may be necessary, He will also make arrests of marauding gangs and other persons as to whom the proof is clear or the presumption great that they have been guilty of crime, and commit them to the custody of the civil authorities, wherever practicable,
