Enclosed please find communication of Doct Nott in Reply to your letter of August 26th the Doctor after visiting the College with Genl Garrand and consulting with other parties, about the destruction; which they persist is consequent, on its present occupancy, the Doctor says that some of the finest works of Art in the Museum is gone and values the loss at thousands of dollars — The Doctor is most certainly in error for the articles he speaks of were taken from the pedestals where they (were exposed to danger from falling plaster) and carfuly placed in the closets within the Museum) for safe keeping — the Professor of Chemistry has called on me and also complains of losses sustained — I have visited
