Your petitioner Jane Weeden, a citizen of Huntsville Madison County, Alabama, begs leave to show, that she owns, in her individual right, in severalty, a house & lot in said City, situated on the corner of Gates & Green Street, in which she has resided with her family, a part of whom are two unmarried daughters. Petitioner has been a widow for 18 years. That before the occupation of North Alabama by the Federal troops, in much 1862, under the advice of Joseph C. Bradley, & other friends, she left her house in Huntsville in the tenancy of Dr Samuel Breck, a citizen of that City, & went to her plantation in Marshall County Alabama, thirty five miles from Huntsville, for the purpose of protecting her larger interests, these interested in planting, from which her income, & support were derived. That after the evacuation of Huntsville by the U.S. forces, she rented her residence to Mrs
