Dear General,
I see by your Genl. Order No. 7. which is a very just and sensible order, that you are getting the Freedmen Bureau to work in Alabama. I do not know whether you are authorized to employ other than officers in the military service, in your burieau [[bureau]] and have thought it would do no harm to inquire, with a view of tendering you my services, provided the compensation would support my family. I have been in the military service since the beginning of the war, and with my experience as a lawyer in addition, if I could be useful. I am at your service.
