I understand however, that an Order from thee will entitle me to to ride for 1/2 fare. Will thee please grant such an Order? My principal reason for writing this morning is to send an appeal on behalf of the colored people located here in Stevenson who are very uneasy on account of a report circulated yesterday, that the schools are to be broken up by sending the mass of the col'd folks out of the town, between this and the first of next month.

The white population here have neither a church edifice nor a school house in or near the town; and because the colored folks have 2 churches & 2 flourishing schools in operation; and are surpassing the whites, religiously, morally, and intellectually; the latter appear jealous, and wish to exterminate them. 
I do know know of an old settler around here (a white man), who is a true Union man. But many of them have taken the Oath of Allegiance as a mere matter of policy; and
