These poor colored people built their cabins where they were directed to; on a rocky hill side, at the foot of the mountain. The place was not previously used for any purpose; but I understand that the semi-rebel owners have rented this rough place to other parties, who are going to drive the Niggers all away. These people are working early and late, to secure an education for as large a number of them as possible; and I do think it very hard, that while they are making such laudable efforts, & are succeeding so nicely in elevating their condition in life; they should be scattered among their rebel enemies in the surrounding country, I find the plan is to conspire together
