the low state of the fences of our Society renders them unable to appropriate
We have nine teachers at work at Mobile, with a school of about 600 scholars. We are anxious to continue our work there, but judging from the published statement of the state of the Treasury of our Society as made in the August Number of our "Bulletin" I cannot see how we are to continue our schools unless school room can be furnished us free of expense to our Society. The order putting it into our hands required some repair for [[strikethrough]] [[?]] [[/strikethrough]] protection of the building; yet we have stated to both Dr Nott and to Gen Kilby Smith that we cannot expend upon the building the sum needed either to protect it suitably from the weather or to fit it for our use as a school room.

I have the honor to be
