Sir:

In compliance with par II Special Order No 20 from these headquarters I proceeded to Girard Ala. and Columbus Ga. for the purpose of investigating the alleged stealing of government stores by Rail Road Employees, and others.

At Girard in company with Lt. Holland Sherrif of Russell County, I proceeded to the residence of the person purporting to have made the above allegations. 

After considerable questioning by me and the sherrif, nothing was elicited which would implicate any person whatever, in Stealing the Stores in Depot at Girard 

We next proceeded to the R.R. Depot and examined the books to ascertain where the Stores came from, and under what circumstances they were stored: from the books I could find nothing referring to the stores in question, but found [ ] all the stores Sent from [Montgomery]had been duly [receipted] for on the books. [When] questioning [Mr] [Abbott]in charge of [this]

Holland Sheriff of Russell County. I proceeded to the residence of the person purporting to have made the above allegation. After considerable questioning by me and the Sheriff nothing was elicited which would implicate any person whatever, in stealing the stones in Deport at Girard. We next proceeded to the RR Depot and examine the books to ascertain where the stones came from and under what circumstances they were stored from the books x first nothing referring to the stone in question, but forwarded all the stones sent from Montgomery have been duly verified for on the book.
