[[overwritten]] August [[/overwritten]]

Forwards letter of S.S. Gardner, Asst. Supt. to Selma, who reports that certain lots set apart for "freedmen by the Bureau, are advertised for sale", - States that the land belonged to the rebel Gov't. & was transferred to the Bureau by Treasury Agts, under Ex. order of Nov. 11 1865; - it was leased to freedmen, who were promised the privilege of purchasing. - Thinks that action should be taken at once, to prevent the freedmen from being dispossessed and subjected to loss of improvements made on the lots.
