Colonel: In compliance with your instructions for me to proceed to Autauga County and ascertain the condition of the people, and attend to other matters pertaining to this Bureau, I have the honor to submit the following as my report.
I proceeded to the village of Prattville in the 23rd inst. Mr. Pratt informed me that he had already written you a letter informing you of the destitution of some of his former employees, and also informed me that at the time he wrote, he had not learned they were getting supplies from the Bureau at Montgomery. but had subsequently learned they were, and he did not consider it necessary to take any further measures for their relief, as the distance was so short to Montgy where they could obtain it. I informed him if he considered it necessary to send supplies to Prattville, to be received there to the suffering, the Govt. would do so if means of transportation could be provided by himself or other parties, and if he would see that the supplies were distributed justly to the need. He informed me he did not consider any further action necessary. I talked with several other prominent men of the place, who concurred in the opinion of Mr. Pratt.
