Colonel:  I have the honor to submit the following as my report: of duties performed by me in compliance with Special Orders No 28.

I left Montgomery Co. Ala. the 11th of this month and proceeded to Nashville Tenn. At the Hd Qrs of Maj. Genl. Thomas I was instructed to procure the Rations needed for DeKalb and Cherokee Counties, in this state, at Chattanooga. I at once proceeded to that point and had no difficulty in drawing the needed supplies, which I also procured transportation for.

The supplies for DeKalb Co. I sent to Trenton Ga. while those for Cherokee were shipped to Rome.

As soon as I had made my arrangements for the supplies and their shipment, I proceeded to Trenton intending to get conveyance from that point to Lebanon, the County seat of DeKalb Co. Arriving at Tranton, I found it impossible to get conveyance further, and was obliged to return to Chattanooga.

While at Trenton I met Judge Estes, the former Probate Judge of DeKalb Co. who informed me at length in regard to the condition of that county, and from the statements made by him, and others with whom I conversed, I do not consider the destitution in that County as great as reported. I heard of no cases of extreme destitution. I sent both written and verbal information to Mr. John K. Hoge, the Probate Judge of the County, informing him of the supplies being shipped to him at Trenton, and also sent him instructions in regard to their issue, and I have no doubt he has, ere this, received the supplies

I was also informed by Judge Estes that an agent by the name of Edwards was acting in that County, for the receipt and distribution of supplies, and that they was received from
