Sir I am in receipt of a copy of an order issued by you the 16th Feb ult requesting the Probate Judge of Pike Co Ala to deliver up to me three colored children &c. My brother who resides in Pike and to whom you gave the order or request sent me a copy of the same, but does not believe the court will compel the party to give up the children. My dear Sir you have no idea the trouble I have been at, and the anxiety I have experienced in my efforts to get the children. Their mother was a favorite servant and on her death bed begged me to take the children and raise them right. She had been my property from a girl and had only one request on her death bed and that was for me to take the children. I provided a conveyance to bring them to Atlanta but the father refused for them to come
