Post of Fort Morgan Ala
October 11th 1866.

Lieutenant
I have the honor to state that, the force at this Post is entirely too small to perform the duties, without greatly overworking the men: I have ninety Six (96) enlisted men: of this number thirty three (33) are on daily duty in the Ordnance Quartermaster and Commissary Department; deduct the sick, and those in confinement, and I have but thirty (30) privates for duty!

I have to furnish a guard for the Quarantine Buildings, three and one half miles from here, this with my Camp Guard, brings some of the men, on every other day!

Having heard that the force at the Post of Fort Gaines was to be reduced by the removal of "A" Company 1st Batt 15th Infantry; I have the honor to request, that the Commanding Officer of said Company be ordered with his Company, to report to me for duty!
