E & M. 746 Sub Dist of Ala. 1866 Hd Qrs Sub Dist of Ala. Montgomery, Dec 20. 1866 Respectfully referred to Bvt. Maj. Geo. H. Tracy, Supt at Mobile for investigation and report as to the present status of this case. By order of Maj. Genl. Wager Swayne J.F. Conyngham 1 Lieut. 15" U.S. Infy A.A.A.G. Office Supt. B.R.F. & A.L. District of Mobile Mobile, Ala Jan 3rd 1867 Respectfully returned to Hd. Qrs. Sub Dist of Ala. The child in question is now in custody of her grandmother and there will be no further objections made to her giving to her mother by those who have hitherto assumed charge of her. Mr. Branch the Supt of colored schools in this city is intending to go North shortly and will take the child with him. In accordance with Mr Branch's wish, I recommend that the child be furnished transportation to Chicago by the Bureau. Geo. H. Tracey Capt 15th Infty Brevet Maj USA Supt. B. R. F. + A.L. I believe both sections reference the same person but the last name is transcribed as is.
