Dear Sir,
We write you in regard to the application of Thomas Bevill Esqr. of Sumpter County Alabama for the position of Sub Commissioner of Freedmen for the Community in which he resides
We have purchased plantations adjoining his and are now residing there
We earnestly desire his appointment. He is straightforward, honest, conscientious and competent He is one of the few southern men that look at affairs in a proper and liberal manner and we believe that if he is appointed that he will give entire satisfaction. He consented to make the application at the earnest solicitation of His Neighbors, ourselves among others
We ourselves are Northern men and would respectfully refer you to. Hon J. G. Sears or Hon Geo. W. Berry Com'r. of Int. Rev. at Upper Sandusky, Ohio or Hon T. E. Cunningham or Shelby Taylor Esqr. Collector of Int. Rev. Lima Ohio. - Col Zigler Commdg Post at Meridian Miss or Lt. Col. [[strikethrough]] San [[/strikethrough]] Cyrus Sears Vicksburgh Miss and on the part of F. D. Carley Esqr. of Chicago Ills to Hon Schuyler Colfax Speaker of House Rep
