Dear Sir,
About two weeks since I addressed you a Communication in regard to some cases of Small Pox, in a Freedmans family, with whom I had made a contract, to work on my farm in Russell County Alabama. Not having received any reply, I have concluded the Letter has not reached you & therefore write you again.

At the beginning of the year I made a contract with a Freedman, his wife & six children, for services on a farm this year. Sometime in January, the head of the family died of Small Pox & the remainder of the family are now having it. The labor of the mother will not support herself & the children, and the latter are too young to work. They have had good attention by Physicians at my expense. When they recover from the disease, their clothing
