Dear Sir
At the request of many Citizens who are anxious for information I address this short note of beginnings, and hope this apology will be possible. Many good, hard working Men with large and dependent families, who have heretofore, had sufficient meat & Bread to squeeze through, and make a crop, are now perfectly destitute of Corn, meat, Bread, money, or any kind of property to pledge or seal to raise provisions. Many of them are trying to pledge their Poor Horse, Land and [[?]] crop, to raise a few Bushels of Corn for Bread & Horse feed, and the little pittence of meat to enable them to keep soul & body together maybe they can make this crop. When these men worked hard
