Commissary had told him this the day before and the matter was well understood and arranged with him. The name of this officer I [[blank]] forgets but thinks he belongs to the 15th Inf. Is not at all certain of this however. Littlefield is now in N. Orleans waiting for [[blank]] whom he expects to go in with him. Littlefield's vessels are owned in New York. C.M. Godbolt is the moneyed and head man of all these parties, and bo't from the Govt. Steamer "Virgin" formerly Blockade-runner paid $40,000, 2 mos ago. It leaked out that this vessel was intended for this purpose, and as a blind she made two trips to New Orleans; is now doing nothing. He wants now to buy the "Red Gauntlet" for a similar purpose. These parties offer the negroes $40, and $50, a month to engage them. They take them by rail from Mobile to Pollard, Fla. on State line. From here they walk about 20 miles to Plantation on River. Then by small vessels direct to Cuba. There are no Bureau officers at Warrington or Barrancas or Pollard, none nearer than Pensacola. The plantation is a very out of the way place

[[blank]] was formerly [[blank]] in [[blank]] stationed at Paducah Ky and caught one [[blank]] of Cairo, Ills.

Transcription Notes:
Difficultly transcribing several of the proper nouns. There appears to be words missing or removed from the text - should this be captured somehow in the transcription? I've placed [[blank]], but not sure about that.
