Judge Mudd of Jefferson County was at my office this afternoon to consult about help for the destitute in his county, which he thinks is one of the most needy. In the course of conversation he stated of fact which I think is of the utmost importance. That is, that the expectation of the destitute people is to receive only corn, and  more, he said, they didnt need anything but corn. They will get near enough someway, or live on bread and milk.
