Colonel:  My monthly & returns were made out in season, and would have been sent before this, but I expected to go to Montgomery myself, to get my pay, and consult upon one or two points which could not well be settled by letter.  Having received a telegram that Col. Beecher was away, I concluded to await his return, and therefore send by military courier.

P.S. Reports from Comstock late Sergt 12 Iowa and now Asst Supt at Camden have just come to hand, saying that it will be impossible for him to stay there longer, without protection.  His authority has been defied and
