Bureau Refugees Freedmen
and Abandoned Lands
Selma, Apr. 28th 1866

C. Cadle. Jr.
Bvt. Col. & A.A.G.

Colonel: I have the honor to call your attention to an application sent to your office some time since with regard to the buildings owned by Hall & Lapsley. I recommended at that time that the buildings be turned over to those gentlemen, the building owned by the confederacy being allowed them as an offset to the use and taxes accruing upon the building and lot owned by them. A question of cleaning up &c. for the health of the city has arisen since, which will put the Bureau of considerable expense, if it remains in our hands. I would therefore ask an order transferring the property as soon as possible.

Very Respectfully
