Major: Your communication respecting my application for leave of absence was this morning received. It has disappointed me, as I had my plans arranged by letter for meeting my friends at home earlier. I had supposed I might leave the business of the office safely with my very efficient clerk, Mr. Green, aided in case of any exigency, by the cordial cooperation of Maj. Ogilby, commanding the detachment here. This officer, who enters heartily into the wishes and purposes of the Bureau has expressed himself willing to act informally [[strikethrough]] as agent [[/strikethrough]] in aid of the Bureau in my absence, should such exigency call for his assistance, If such an arrangement will answer, I would be glad to avail myself of its advantages.
