I have the honor to inform you that the Store House known as the Confederate Wayside Hospital, wherein a large amount of Government property was Stored, consisting of Subsistence Stores, Quartermaster Stores, and Stores appertaining to the Bureau of R.F & AL. Also, stores for the destitute citizens of Alabama, all of which I was responsible for. Portions of each of the above specified Stores & property have been consumed in the fire, lost or destroyed. on the night of the 26th inst
I respectfully request that a "Board of Survey" be appointed to meet as soon as practicable to determine the amount of loss and furnish the proper papers that I may be enabled to make my returns to the Department at the Proper time
