The woman Amy, being of age, can be bound by no contract made for her without her authority, and though she tacitly consented to this contract by working under it 3 or 4 weeks, yet she says she stayed there to see whether she would like there or not, believing there was no bonding fore in any sort of a contract, and never, up to this time, having "signed her name", she went to Mr. Hughes and voluntarily - as proven by herself and others - signed his contract. Three days afterward she voluntarily signed the contract with Rogers. Regarding her not bound by the contract of Tol for her, we decided that she was bound by the first one she made herself in writing, and hence turned her over to Mr. Hughes. Our custom is always to give written contracts, fairly and justly made, preference over any previous verbal contract, and to hold no negro of age, bound by any contract made by another party without his or her specific authority.
