Dear Sir:
I received from you, about the 20th ult., a letter dated June 8th, stating that you had received a sum of money to be used for the benefit of the colored people, a portion of which you proposed to place in my hands. I wrote by return of mail that it would give me great pleasure to be the agent for disbursing anything which might be designed for the instruction of the colored people of this place. I have received no answer to this letter, and fearing, from the length of time which has elapsed, that it may have miscarried, I write to repeat what I then said. We are carrying on two Sunday Schools for the freedmen, one on the north side of the river and one in the town, which would be more efficient if we had the means of [[strikethrough]] making [[/strikethrough]] purchasing proper books.
