Sir - 

I have written to Gen'l Tillson of Augusta. in behalf of a family of very destitute negroes, that were brought to this place three years ago by their owners, from Tennessee he, Gen'l Tillson, says it is out of his jurisdiction; but that if I would apply to you he had no doubt you would grant a free transportation as far as your jurisdiction extends, when you hear of their impoverished condition. They were brought here by Dr. Reid, who was scarcely able to carry his own family back. he has shown no disposition to throw these people off; but has helped them from time to time, by sending them money to relieve their pressing necessities, with six children, the oldest about 11 years old. The entire are delicate and improvidend. They have relatives in Tennessee who write, and urge them to come. They will endeav[[or]]
