My wife first wrote to Genl. Wilson of Augusta some 3 weeks since to ascertain whether he could not furnish them transportation from West Point to Chattanooga (if not Nashville). She received information from him in reply that as they were living in Ala, they were outside of his jurisdiction and within the jurisdiction of Genl. Swayne and that he had the authority and would no doubt if applied to grant the transportation. My wife then wrote to Genl. Swayne on the subject some 10 days ago but receiving no answer from him wrote again to Gov Patton some 4 or 5 days ago requesting him to bring the matter to Genl. Swaynes notice and request him to act on it but has as yet recd no answer from either of them. You know that neither my wife nor myself have any interest in the matter except on the score of humanity and the friends of their former owner.

You will greatly oblige us by bringing this matter to Genl. Swaynes noticed as soon as convenient after your arrival in Montgomery and informing me of the result.

I want if transportation can be procured for them to have them shippd on the Cars from West Point to Nashville before the cold winter weather sets in -

Yours truly
A. Erwin
