The following are some of the expresions of the said Richards, late a Reb'l Solider (to wit) "God damn the Government hurah for secession & the Rebel Army & God damn them that dont believe in it. I am yet a rebel & expect to be a rebel & God damn them that are not in favor of the Rebels" about which a fight ensued, in which myself & son were involved

Gen'l I have said thus much on this subject as a reason for calling upon you for a sufficent Military force to preserve law and order in my section of the County as it is my candid opinion that unless the Union men in my part of the County can get the protection of the Govment of the US. they are in danger of loosing their lives; I lay the conduct of Richard’s and party before you for your consideration

Since writing the above I have the promise of protection from Union men in an other portion of the County. Should I fail in this can I get protection from the government? I think that if Richards was arrested & brought to Justice for his conduct that it would deter others. Gen'l I would be pleased to hear from you
