Huntsville Al. 9 March 1866

J W S Donnell Esq

Dear Sir
Gen Patton left this yesterday morning by rail for Washington City. I did not know he was in town until the night before too late to see him.
On yesterday I forwarded to his address Willards Hotel Washington City your papers with request that he would attend to them for you, and in the event he should fail to secure them at Willards Hotel, I requested the proprietor to deliver them to Gen O O Howard chief of Bureau &c.
This is the best I could do for you.
Gen Swayne preceded Gov Patton & did not pass this way

Yours truly
Geo P Beirne

If you desire you can write direct to Howard & Patton probably it would be well to do so
