When I learned he was in possession of the Q.M in Selma, I took steps to recover him, Such as was advised by officers in authority in Selma. I went before a justice of peace and made affidavit to the foregoing facts, as you will see in the papers referred to by Capt Whetsel, and sent by my friend's as was directed, all of which will appear if the papers have been forwarded to you. The horse has been kept from me and I deprived of his use still. And I now appeal to you for justice.

Respectfully
Mrs L. A. Du Bose.

Gen Wood sir the within is written and sent to you as we believe that the affidavit and other paper which Capt Whetsel promised to send to you had not reached you or you would have acted on the matter and I should have heard from you I am yours J.W. Patten
