I have taken the liberty of making these suggestions to you, because I have heard that you were willing to receive any that were prompted by the experience of those engaged in managing the freedmen, when made with a view to their benefit - I think that it is every mans duty to do what he can to benefit them, not me, on their account, but because everything that benefits them and makes them more useful is of service to the whole community.

I have also made these suggestions to you, because I know
