Dear Sir
Through the solicitation of Thomas Knight freedman I write you the following lines about the 6th inst the said Thomas complained to me acting in the capacity of Justice of the Peace that himself and wife have contracted to work for one J. M. Speer of this county Speer agreeing to pay them one hundred dollars for their work this present year. Tom & wife work faithfully and all went smoothly until the said 6th inst when Speer accused Tom of stealing eggs which accusation Tom denied. Speer then told Tom and wife to leave his plantation and the sooner they got away the better. Tom told him to pay him for his work and he would leave, Speer refused to do so or to pay any part thereof  [[strikethrough]] Tom [[?]] [[/strikethrough]] Tom & Wife left Speer, Tom then complained on Oath before me that Speer did justly owe him one hundred dollars for work and labour done for said Speer and that the said Speer had property, money or affects that he fraudulently withheld from the payment of his debts and also
