On or about the 30th day of Dec 1865 I was of Crateville Autuagua County, while I was away four men come on my [strikethrough]]placr [[strikethrough]] step mothers place and two of them went into one of the negro cabins occupied by a man named Freeman, cold. "Freeman" and "August" cold man were in the cabin, The two men took all of the Freemans clothing and two pair of boots. This was about 9 o'clock in the morning. They had their [[strikethrough]] faces [[strikethrough]]cheeks daubed to disguise themselves, my step mothers place is 16 mi from Coosalin on the Tuscaloosa Road. A white man named "Joe Crawford" was on the place at the time, He saw three men and said he knew them. my step mother and her daughter were at home and saw these men and said they knew them. “August”
[[strikethrough]]and “Freeman cold emplo [[strikethrough]] cold employed by Benj. Nelson who lives 6 or 7 miles from me; 
“Freeman” employed by me; Joe Crawford Mrs. Mary Booth and Mrs. Martha Grey all
Saw the men that come to the cabin on the place, and say that two of them were J. Oscar Jeffries and Nathaniel Jeffries Jr.


The above statement was made to me by N T. Booth and “Freeman” a cold man on the 6t day of January 1866. Mr. N.T. Booth agreeing to produce the witness whenever required.
