I, John H King, Commissioner of the District Court of the United States for the Northern District of Alabama, hereby certify that on the seventeenth day of November 1865, at my office at Huntsville, Ala. personally appeared before me, Mary Lawler of the County of Madison, and state of Alabama who being duly sworn took and subscribed before me the following oath:
I do hereby solemnly swear in the presence of Almighty God, that I will henceforth support, protect and defend the constitution of the United States, and the Union of the States thereunder, and that I will in like manner, abide by and faithfully support all laws and Proclamations which have been made during the existing rebellion with reference to the Emancipation of Slaves: So help me God.
