that class of paupers; and advised me to send her to the Freedmans Bureau at Montgomery; but sir, I feel that it would be inhuman to send the poor old helpless creature off, among strangers, not knowing that she would be certain to receive such attention as she really needs: I therefore have concluded to propose to 1 year to keep her and have her properly attended to, provided the government will allow me an amount sufficient to furnish her with necessary clothing, food & attention to make her comfortable. I further think it would be just for me to receive reasonable compensation for keeping her since the 1st of last may.
