General;
The undersigned citizens of the county and state aforesaid, respectfully petitioning, beg leave to state and show: That they are, and for more than six years have been, joint owned of the following designated lot of land in the city of Selma; to wit, a lot of about 150 feet square, fronting Southward on Water Street, and ajacent to the premises known as the wayside hospital. On said lot are sundry houses; among which a two story frame dwelling, and a one story frame tenement. In the month of May or June last, the portion of said lot including said frame dwelling and one story tenement, was appropriated by, or under authority of the Freedmen's Bureau of Selma, or offices thereof: from which time until the present, Petitioners have been deprived of the use and control thereof; without their consent, and without compensation, or any agreement for compensation. The portion of the premises of which they have been and are thus deprived, would have rented and could now be rented they believe, at from seventy five to one hundred dollars per month: perhaps
