You will please inform me if the Magistrates of the different Beats in this state has the power yet to act enforce orders from the Freedmens Bureau. If so you will please Commission me to act for this Beat. Beat No. 6, Chambers, Co. Ala I am the Magistrate of the Beat, and I desire for you to give me the authority to act on orders from the Freedmens Bureau. There is no one even been appointed in this Beat for that Business. There is a good deal of struggling about by the Freedmens quitting there employers without a cause and there is no civil law that will reach them.
