Selma Ala. July 6, 1866

Gen'l.
I beg to enclose herewith a copy of Settlement between James J. Smith Esq. U.S. Dist' Atto, and Mr. E. A. Blunt, of Perry County, in reference to the property in Selma, known as the "Watts Hall Building," showing the dismissal of the proceedings of the U. States against said property for confiscation.
Before this settlement, I, as Agent of E. A. Blunt, applied to Capt. Goss, A.Q.M. in control of the Hall, for the possession, as it was very desirable on account of the great danger that the property was in, from exposure & the lack of repairs.
He stated that he would prefer for me to advise you of adjudication or adjustment of the case, and procure an order from you for the property, as [[strikethourgh]] you [[/strikethrough]] he held the building under your order, as I understood him, which order, he advised me you would give immediately, & he would very gladly turn it over to me, as it was of no use to the Gov't
May I ask your early attention to the matter, and for the necessary order for the property.
Any further information you may desire, touching the settlement of the case, Mr. Smith, the Dist' Attorney
