You will please furnish this office at as early a date as possible, all information you can gather with reference to lands subject to entry under the Homestead Law, that it may be transmitted to Assistant Commissioner of States not included in the Act of Congress. 
The object in view is to place within the reach of all Freedmen under the care of this Bureau, all the information necessary, to enable them to secure the benefits of the Act of Congress allowing them to enter lands.
Your communication should cover the following heads, at least
The number acres:
It's location, what counties, some information as to quality, whether in bottom, swamps, hilly or upland: Means of reaching it, and any other information that would be of assistance to parties entering the lands.
