the month of November and was tried and cleared by them. Capt. Craft was Provost marshal there at that time during the time I was sent to Nashville and they could not do any thing with me and sent me back home and I was released in the presence of Wm F. Austin to witness the release and they said that they could not bother me any more. Now Genl they arrested me in the month of April and have held me here in jail ever since and I have plenty of witnesses to prove his trials and that he was trying to take my life at the time he was killed and proved it in court at my examination and they would not even admit me bail, now if you doubt this in the least write to Wm F Austin Stevenson Ala and he will give you his affidavit that I was cleared by the Federal Authorities there as the jail of that county was out of repairs the prisoners are kept in the Huntsville Jail if you want any evidence on the case write to the Comdr here and I will give him the names and he can get it
Now Genl I don't think that men can get their rights if they can arrest them [[strikethrough]] the [[/strikethrough]] after they have been tried and cleared I want you to investigate this matter as I have laid in jail eleven months on this case and can't get any trial please attend to it and oblige
Respectfully your most Obdt Servt
