To Gen Thomas
Sir I am an old Discharged Soldier of the United States and Permitted to Carry arms by Gen Grant and now me and all Federal Soldiers is Taxed by a Rebel Delegation Called A. Legislation Three Dollars for our Navies and when they catch one of the Boys without money they Seize their Pistols and Sell them forthwith to the Highest Bidder
Gen will the Government Suffer this for men that has Defended the Flag of their country To be Trampled under Foot and Their Property Confiscated by Treasonable hands we as Discharged Soldiers Petition To Your Honor for an Order to Protect our arms in the limits of an insurrectionary State this we do for the welfare of the Country and Peace of our Community I am
