It was by no means thro any want of courtesy to yourself or Genl Swayne that your letter addressed to "Judge Hooper" had remained unanswered. A full reply from Judge Waddell of the probate court was with-held because of his concluding he was not the person designed. Recently learning this fact, altho the letter was never delivered to me I assume from the similarity of name that it may have been intended for me.

Since the time of Dick Ingraves visit to Montgomery in Septr last I have become acquainted with him & somewhat familiar with all the obvious facts of his case; but really find it not easy to pronounce any dogmatic opinion as to the justice & equity of the decision binding his children out to Chadwicks. The record stated that there was a clear mistake in the allegation that a portion only of his children were bound. All were included in the binding & two were returned to him on his own application apparently under some sort of compromise. The essence of the question on the binding was whether
