Sergeant Thomas Harris late of the 8th Iowa Volunteer Infty. desires me to state to you my oppinion of his fitness for the position of Post U.S. Mail Agent with the view of applying to you for assistance in obtaining that possition
Sergeant Harris was on duty with me while I was Assistant Superintendent "Eight months." And I assigned to him the most important trust, and dangerous duties,
I found him prompt, fearless, judicious, intelligent, and above all for the position he seeks trustworthy.
I am under obligation to Sergeant Harris for valuable assistance in the performance of my duty under your direction
