Dear Sir
There was at the spring term of the circuit court for this county a Freedman Simon Culver convicted and sent to the penitentiary for three years for marrying a second wife while his first was living without I think sufficient evidence to convict in fact there was but one witness & he swore that he had seen him about the place where his first or lawful wife lived which was all he knew of the matter the Judge in his charge to the Jury said it was the first case of the kind that had been before the courts & that there must be and example made to deter others from the like offense of Simon was raised by my father widow.
